2014 Legislation

HB14-1059
"No Disorderly Conduct for Military Funerals"
As it stands, the ritual discharge of black ammunition cartridges at a funeral for a deceased person who was a veteran of the United States armed forces could be considered disorderly conduct. This bill would eliminate this statute in Colorado law. This is a right that our veterans have earned as part of thanks for their service to our country. This bill ensures that our veterans will be buried with dignity and honor.

Signed into law by Gov. Hickenlooper on March 7, 2014.

HB14-1161
"Southwest Chief"
This bill creates a commission and a fund for the purposes of encouraging Amtrak, which has an existing line that stretches from Chicago to L.A. to continue service and expand service by adding a stop in Pueblo along the Southwest Chief Line. The Chief is essential because it will boost regional and local economies, increase tourism and expand transportation services. This bill is important to rural communities in Southern and Southeastern Colorado.

Signed into law by Gov. Hickenlooper on May 14, 2014.

HB14-1169
"Firefighters Advisory"
This bill repeals the Volunteer Firefighters Advisory Committee.

Signed into law by Gov. Hickenlooper on March 27, 2014.

HB14-1170
"Pueblo CBI"
This bill is designed to authorize the State Treasurer to enter into a purchase agreement on the state's behalf for the financing of the purchase and remodel for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation's Pueblo regional office. The current building has numerous structural and systemic defects and is no longer safe or practical for the CBI to operate there. Southern Colorado cannot afford to lose this facility. Without a Pueblo location, the area will see increased wait times; it will take nearly 2 hours for investigative help to travel from Denver, or nearly 5 hours from Grand Junction. This bill also have economic benefits as the new building will keep well-paying jobs in here, and encourage other highly-skilled and trained individuals to call this area home.

Signed into law by Gov. Hickenlooper on May 14, 2014.

HB14-1300
"Colorado State Fair Bill"
My bill will make a one-time transfer of funds to the Colorado State Fair to support our state’s 4-H clubs as well as the Colorado Association of the National Future Farmers of America Organization. The money will also be used to renovate and upgrade facilities for the Colorado State Fair. It will ensure that the Colorado State Fair will continue to be successful and remain an important part of Pueblo as well as all of Colorado.

Signed into law by Gov. Hickenlooper on May 14, 2014.

HB14-1311
"Main Street Revitalization"
My bill begins the process of restoring, preserving and enhancing certified historic structures across the state of Colorado. It will allow owners of historic landmarks across Colorado to submit applications for tax credits. HB14-1311 will allow communities and individuals to restore important commercial spaces to ensure we are connected to our heritage. These are beautiful, historic buildings that could be rehabilitated. This is a great bill for Pueblo. Preserving, restoring and enhancing these historic sites is important for our state’s history.

Signed into law by Gov. Hickenlooper on May 14, 2014.

SB14-001
